Date added: 28/12/2010 Grow List for 2011

As the New Year begins and the daylight hours increase, here at the Upton Cheyney Chilli Company we have only one thing on our minds - GERMINATION!

Yup, its that time of year again when we choose which chillies we want to grow, both for use on the chilli farm and those that we sell as plants at market.

There is a big difference between the two, as farm plants are choosen for their heat levels and yields, whilst plants for sale are choosen for heat levels as well as their appearance, with funky plants like Peters Pepper (the rude looking one!) and Riot (the crazy looking one) being favoured.

This year in our growing tunnels you will find the following plants:

Jalapeno.

Serrano.

Hungarian Hot Wax.

Super Chilli.

Orange Habanero.

7 Pot.

Lemon Drop.

Plants which will be available from the farm shop as well as the various markets and shows that we do will include:

Riot

Bishops Hat

Peters Pepper

7 Pot

Hungarian Black

Habanero Fruit Burst

Dorset Naga

Bolivian Rainbow

Sweet Wrinkled Old Man

Elephants Trunk

All of the above seeds were sourced from Simpson Seeds who have an exhaustive range of chilli plants as well as a huge volume of other vegetable, fruit and flower seeds

The first wave of germination starts now (28th December), with the longer to mature plants and the intial plants for market taking priority. Germination then continues throughout January and February, with the farm destined plants being planted out at the end of April.

We also have exciting news this year with the erection of a brand new show tunnel. This tropical paradise sponsored by Simpson Seeds will house over 100 different types of chillies and will be a sight to see. Watch this space for more info on this exciting development!

For the time being however its time to get those seeds in!
